Vineyard Wind is currently building the nation's first utility-scale offshore wind energy project over 15 miles off the coast of Massachusetts. The project will generate clean, renewable, affordable energy for over 400,000 homes and businesses across the Commonwealth, while reducing carbon emissions by over 1.6 million tons per year.
With the emerging offshore wind sector poised to create thousands of job opportunities, Bristol Community College will play a critical role in developing a regional workforce and local infrastructure to support the offshore wind industry.
Bristol's National Offshore Wind Institute (NOWI) will offer a comprehensive array of training to ensure the workforce has the skills and certifications required for careers in the offshore wind industry. The future, state-of-the-art NOWI facility, located at 198 Herman Melville Boulevard, in New Bedford, will feature an innovative practical training section, combined with theory and classroom work.
The college currently offers a 66-credit, Associate in Science in Engineering Technology (Offshore Wind Power) program and two, 29-credit, certificate offerings in Offshore Wind Power Technician and Offshore Wind Power Technology.
