Students eligible to receive Financial Aid will have to authorize if they would like excess Financial Aid funds (if applicable) to pay other allowable education expenses that are considered non-institutional such as health insurance, program exams, and additional program expenses assessed on your tuition invoice.

To authorize your Financial Aid funds please follow the steps below:

  1. Once logged into your myBristol account, click on Finances & Aid
  2. Choose Step 2 – Review and Accept Financial Aid Award – Annual
  3. Click on Student Services & Financial Aid
  4. Choose Financial Aid
  5. Choose Authorize Federal Student Title IV Funds or Change Authorization from “N” to“Y”

Note: You can change from “N” to “Y”, but if you’d like to change your selection from “Y” to “N” you will need to contact the Student Accounts Office at 774-357-2160.

How Should I Answer?

The choice is entirely up to you, here are some examples using the health insurance charge.

Example 1:

You’re registered for 12 credits and you need health insurance, total tuition and fees are $2,328 and the health insurance charge is $1,712 for a total of $4,040. Financial Aid is awarding you $3,500, after covering tuition and fees you have a credit of $1,172 (Financial Aid award $3,500, less tuition and fees $2,328 = $1,172):

  • By selecting “Y” to the authorization - You’re allowing excess Financial Aid funds to help you with this charge resulting in a balance due of $540.00 (Excess Financial Aid $1,172, less health insurance of $1,712 = $540.00 balance due)
  • By selecting “N” to the authorization - You would be required to pay $1712 out of pocket by the due date of the semester bill. If unpaid you could have a hold placed on your account and would remain in place until the charge is paid in full.

Example 2:

You’re registered for 12 credits and you do not need health insurance, total tuition and fees are $2,328 and the health insurance charge is $1,712 for a total of $4,040. Financial Aid is awarding you $3,500, after covering tuition and fees you have a credit of $1,172:

  • If you do not need health insurance, you would complete the online waiver on your myBristol account (required to waive health insurance).
  • By selecting “Y” to the authorization - If you need health insurance in the future, you’re allowing excess Financial Aid funds to help you with that charge when you need it.
  • By selecting “N” to the authorization - If you need health insurance in the future you would be required to pay the charge out of pocket by the due date of the semester bill. If unpaid you could have a hold placed on your account and would remain in place until the charge is paid in full.

Note: You can always change your selection by contacting the Student Accounts Office at 774.357.2160.
