To honor Dr. King’s historic March on Washington, the college sponsors an annual essay competition inviting Bristol’s students to write about the meaning of Dr. King’s dreams and ideals. This year's winners included Geraldine Fequiere, Third Place; James Mesalon; Second Place and Jessica Fidalgo, First Place. The event also included the unveiling of a portrait of Captain Thomas J. Hudner, Jr., a Fall River native. During the Korean War, he risked his life trying to save his fellow squadron mate and wingman, Ensign Jesse L. Brown, the first African American to complete Navy flight training.
