World Languages

When you are a student of Language and Cultural Studies, you not only receive a strong educational foundation, but you BELONG. We have the personal touch and strive to build a community of learners. Student clubs and program events provide language learning and practice in a relaxed and fun atmosphere with peers and native/heritage speakers. The relationships that students develop with each other, their professors and community members are an integral part of what makes our programs so special, and our students shine. Choose us whether you want an exciting and in-demand career, to get in touch with family heritage or to better interact in your multilingual work or social community.

Learning a second language opens doors to opportunity. Academic programs at Bristol that focus on language and cultural studies offer dynamic curricula that can lead to exciting careers in interpreting, education, international affairs, foreign service and more. Our programs offer courses that can lead a student to a certificate, an associate degree, a career, or transfer.

Bristol currently offers language study in American Sign Language, Cape Verdean Creole, Portuguese, and Spanish. Our passionate faculty also teach accompanying courses that explore cultural or historic aspects tied to these language communities. Native American Studies and Deaf Studies are rare gems in the south coast region and state. Our interpreting options help our community with the real problem of supply/demand in our area for language access.

Students choosing our programming not only develop a solid academic foundation, but also practical communication skills and inter-cultural awareness needed in an increasingly global, multicultural, and multilingual society. Courses are designed to support the college mission: to provide an accessible, innovative, and inclusive education that prepares students to navigate and succeed in our ever-changing world.
