The Path to Success in Career and Beyond
The Communication program at Bristol Community College helps students understand and
apply key principles of human communication, think critically about mass and emerging
media in a diverse world, and develop strong practical communication skills. Whether
you are preparing for a career in communication or still exploring your options, a
communication major provides a solid foundation for any future endeavor.
The program provides the foundation students need to transfer successfully into four-year communication programs. After transferring, students can pursue communication-related careers such as journalism, media production, and public relations.
Communication careers offer vast opportunities for growth, innovation and advancement. Potential career paths include:
- Public Relations Specialist/Manager
- Digital Marketing Manager
- Corporate Communications Manager
- Media Relations/Spokesperson
- Social Media Strategist/Manager
- Content Strategist/Copywriter
- Communications Consultant
- Speechwriter
- Journalist/Media Producer
- Content Designer
Students are eligible for the MassTransfer program and transfer agreements with private and public schools in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. These options offer convenient and efficient transfer and can provide substantial cost savings.
Upon completion, students have gained perspective and skills for success – in college, career and life.
Why Study Communication at Bristol?

industry experience. - The Communication program emphasizes hands-on, project-based learning in and outside of the classroom.
- Communication majors are paired with a full-time Communication faculty member for ongoing advising throughout their career at Bristol.
- Bristol’s full TV and podcast studios are available for student use.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
Students are strongly encouraged to get involved in co-curriculars and pursue internships
to gain experience, enhance their résumé and develop contacts for professional networking.
Co-curriculars and opportunities include our student newspaper, on-campus TV studio, online radio station, theatre and more. Bristol’s Experiential Education Center and the Communication faculty advisors help students find internships in their area of interest.
Students have interned on-campus at FRC Media and The HAWK student newspaper, and at community sites including WPRI 12, The Fall River Herald, 93.7 WEEI Sports Radio and many others. Learn more about the Experiential Education Center here.
