Exemption Options at Bristol

Students may be exempt from all or part of the Accuplacer placement test by any of the following:
(click each for more information)

  • If you graduated with a 2.7 GPA from any accredited U.S. high school within 5 years, you are exempt from the Accuplacer QAS test.
  • If you graduated with a 2.7 GPA from any accredited U.S. high school within 15 years, you are exempt from the Accuplacer WritePlacer and Reading tests.
  • The Math Department has approved students who have been out of high school longer than five years be advised into a math co-requisite course based on their program of study.

Submit your official transcript to the  Office.

Official score reports can be mailed, emailed, or faxed to the testing center and must come directly from the other college. We will accept any passing scores and will contact you with the results. You may still be required to take some tests at Bristol.

Scores of 500 or above on the SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section waives students from the WritePlacer and Reading placement tests. Scores of 540 or above waives students from the math placement test. Please submit official College Board SAT score reports to the Testing Center.

*This is only applicable for the SAT version taken after MARCH 2016.*

Scores of 18 or above on the English test waives students from the WritePlacer and Reading placement tests. Scores of 22 or above on the Math test waives students from the math placement test. Please submit official score reports to the Testing Center.

Please submit your official College Board score reports to the Admissions Office using the CLEP Policy document.

Students who earn AP Exam scores of 3 or above are generally considered to be qualified to receive college credit and/or placement into advanced courses due to the fact that their AP Exam scores are equivalent to a college course score of "middle C" or above.   • Scores of 165 or above on the Mathematical Reasoning test waives students from the Accuplacer QAS placement test.
  • Scores of 165 or above on the Reasoning through Language Arts test waives students from the WritePlacer and Reading placement tests.
  • These scores are applicable to examinees who tested after January 2014.

  • Scores of 15 or above on the Mathematics test waives students from the Accuplacer QAS placement test.
  • Scores of 15 or above on the Language Arts-Reading combined with a score of 15 or above on the Language Arts-Writing along with a score of 4 or above on the essay prompt waives students from the WritePlacer and Reading placement tests.
  • These scores are applicable to examinees who tested after January 2017.
