Empowering Through Inclusion:
Massachusetts Initiative Thrives at Bristol

The Massachusetts Inclusive Concurrent Enrollment Initiative (MAICEI), in partnership with local school districts, is transforming the educational landscape for public high school students ages 18 to 22 with intellectual disabilities and/ or autism. Committed to full inclusion, MAICEI empowers students to enroll at Bristol Community College for personal development or pursue college courses for credit that are aligned with their interests and career aspirations.

Students, guided by dedicated education coaches, not only attend classes but also participate in campus life, clubs and internships, enhancing both academic and life skills. Since its inception in the Fall of 2019 with six students, the initiative has grown, supporting 13 students in the 2023/24 academic year from the Fall River, Old Rochester and Somerset Berkley school districts.

This opportunity not only provides a vital learning experience for students, who otherwise might not have the opportunity to attend college, but also contributes to the cultivation of a more inclusive and diverse college community. This commitment to empowering students on their educational journey ensures they receive the necessary tools and guidance to thrive in a college environment and beyond.
