Ruminations on Drawing 366

A Year Long Drawing Project by Kristin S. Street

January 23 - February 20, 2025

Reception: Thursday, January 30, 6 - 8 p.m.

Kristin S. Street is an artist from Rhode Island. She holds a BFA in Textiles from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA in Sculpture/Studio Art from the Maryland Institute College of Art. Driven by an insatiable curiosity for materials and a passion for exploring new techniques, Kristin's artistic journey is deeply influenced by a fascination with both organic forms and manufactured structures, an interplay that serves as a perpetual wellspring of inspiration and exploration. Her work transcends traditional media boundaries, reflecting her dynamic and ever-evolving creative process.

Kristin’s yearlong drawing project consists of 366 drawings, each created daily over the course of a year. Measuring 8 by 8 inches, each piece builds upon the work that came before it while also anticipating what might emerge tomorrow. This cyclical relationship between past, present, and future reflects the inherently iterative nature of a daily art-making practice—a commitment many artists embrace at some point in their creative journeys.

The practice of creating daily mirrors how we approach understanding our world: by revisiting, reckoning, and reimagining. It serves as a means of processing experiences, analyzing patterns, solving problems, and gaining perspective or emotional distance. As such, it is not just a way to create; it is a method of inquiry, reflection, and growth.

Undertaking a project like this requires significant discipline and resilience, as the artist must navigate both the challenges and revelations that arise over the course of the year. Yet within the defined parameters of time and scale lies infinite possibility. It is through this framework that a cohesive and dynamic body of work is born—one that testifies to the artist’s dedication, adaptability, and creative evolution.
