COVID-19 Exposure

Keeping the college community safe should be the priority of everyone who is visiting any of our college locations. The following information is important if you are a close contact or test positive for COVID-19.

If you Test Positive for COVID-19

Complete the Exposure Report Form.

It is important that you contact Bristol’s Health Services immediately if you have been notified through any other source. Notification will be done through Health Services’ official process to members of the college community who need to know including contact tracing. Health Services will contain specific directions for all involved. Remember, your safety and privacy are a top priority. Students/Employees should not reach out directly to faculty or supervisors about their COVID-19 diagnosis. You can reach out to let them know you will not be at work or in class without providing specific information about your private health matters.

If you test positive at any of Bristol's COVID -19 surveillance test clinics, you will be notified by Health Services of your positive result. They will do the initial contact tracing and provide you with important information. The state and local health department will be aware of your positive test result and may contact you for more extensive contact tracing.

If you test positive at a non-Bristol site, which includes the CIC site in Bristol's parking lot, we ask that you immediately notify Bristol's Health Services department. Contact tracing will take place by Bristol's Health Services to ensure on-campus safety and guidance.

Close Contacts or Presumed Positive

Do not come to any of the college locations if you are a close contact or presumed positive.

Presumed Positive COVID-19 Case

When there is a presumed positive COVID-19 case, all contact tracing protocols will be followed and anyone affected will be directed accordingly by the college’s Health Services department. This process is critical to stopping the spread of the virus, as well as providing a timely warning to those who may have been exposed. Bristol has employees certified in contact tracing to focus on this process.

  • We follow very specific guidelines from the Department of Public Health to determine close contacts and possible exposure. We take many factors into consideration.
  • If it is determined that you may be a close contact, you will be notified and provided with directions. (Notification will go out via email, and for students, will include the instructor.)
  • If you are not determined to be a close contact, you will not be notified.
  • Additionally, if there is a positive case within your area and you are not affected, you will not receive any information.
  • Due to privacy, we will not tell you the exact location/classroom that the exposure took place.
  • As an added precaution, the college may ask people outside of this cohort to self-isolate or quarantine depending on the case.
  • Each case is treated as its own unique scenario, backed by the expertise of our Health Services department and the Department of Public Health to provide guidance.
  • The college operates under an abundance of caution and takes extra steps to ensure safety.

Are you at High Risk for COVID-19?

Check out the CDC guidance for a complete list of those who might be at higher risk. Students, Faculty and Staff who may fall into these categories may voluntarily reach out to Gia Sanchez, Diversity & Title IX Officer, at Gia.Sanchez@BristolCC.edu regarding possible accommodations.

Self Screening & Certification

Employees and students shall self-monitor their health status daily prior to reporting to work or class at any Bristol location. Those who are feeling ill must not come to campus and should follow the appropriate sick notification procedure, as well as speak with their supervisor/instructor about completing work remotely, if possible. Additionally, employees and students experiencing COVID-19 symptoms should contact their doctor or local urgent care center for further guidance and testing procedures, as necessary.

According to CDC guidance, potential COVID-19 symptoms include, but may not be limited to:

  • Fever or chills
  • New cough (not related to a chronic condition)
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle aches or weakness
  • Sore throat
  • New nasal congestion or runny nose (not related to seasonal allergies)
  • New loss of smell or taste
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

If any student answers ‘yes’ to any of the screening questions, they should stay home and do the following:

  • Complete Bristol’s Exposure Report Form.
  • Be encouraged to contact their doctor or urgent care center.
  • Contact their instructor to let them know they will not be attending class.
