This was an exhibition that almost no one got to see. December was particularly snowy and our reception was cancelled. Snow days, the end of the semester, and holidays meant that very few people were able to visit the gallery. It was also the first time we exhibited the work of Michael Hansel. He would return a decade later to create CounterTension, a remarkable transformation of the gallery. We’ll highlight that next time.

Another segment from #artfromthevault The exhibition CounterTension was created by Michael Hansel and a team of artists and fabricators. The effect is a stunning transformation of the gallery. It debuted in September of 2012 and was one of the most memorable exhibitions the gallery ever produced.

In 2006, the gallery produced an exhibition about the Works Progress Administration, more specifically, a branch of the WPA called the Federal Arts Project. A local Art Association owned a collection of paintings made by regional artists during the Great Depression and offered the gallery an opportunity to exhibit the works.
