In light of recent issues obtaining documents from the IRS due to the government shutdown, the Financial Aid Office is strongly encouraging the use of the IRS Data Retrieval Tool. This option within the FAFSA allows students and parents to transfer tax information directly from the IRS into the FAFSA. The IRS Data Retrieval Tool typically satisfies the federal verification requirements for tax information without having to submit an IRS Tax Return Transcript. If selected for verification, students and parents can log back into the FAFSA to make a correction and use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool.
If you or your parent(s) are unable to use the Data Retrieval Tool, the Financial Aid Office has received new guidance from the Department of Education allowing for signed copies of the original IRS Income Tax Return in lieu of the IRS Tax Return Transcript. This currently applies to both 2018-19 and 2019-20. In addition, while IRS Non-filer Statements are unavailable due to the government shutdown, the Financial Aid Office can accept alternative documentation. Non-filer forms are now available on the Forms page. Once the IRS resumes regular operation, these forms will no longer be accepted and IRS Non-filer Statements will again be required.
The big question: how can you pay for your education?
Financial aid can ease the burden of costs by offering grants, scholarships, loans, and work study opportunities for qualified students.
You need to be admitted to an eligible degree or certificate program to receive financial aid. All associate degree programs are eligible and some certificate programs are eligible for financial aid. View the current list of Financial Aid Eligible Certificate Programs.
The Financial Aid Office uses standards and procedures developed by the U.S. Department of Education to estimate a fair student and family contribution, determine financial need, and then determine the amount and type of assistance that can be offered to meet your educational expenses.
