Event Description
The 3rd annual Earth Day Fair will take place on Wednesday, April 18 at the BCC Fall River campus. The event is organized by the student club Seeds of Sustainability (SOS) and will feature speakers, workshops, an exhibitor arena, a silent auction, a sustainability scavenger hunt, tours of the only LEEDS Platinum science building in New England, and a springtime farmers’ market. The event is open to the public and is FREE.

The keynote speaker will be Bristol/Plymouth Senator Marc Pacheco, chair of the Climate Change and Global Warming senate committee who will discuss state and regional environmental issues and citizen involvement. Workshops on solar energy, international environmental experiences, and worm farming (vermiculture) are planned.

Exhibitors include area environmental & nature organizations (Buttonwood Park Zoo, Friends of the Quequechan River Rail Trail, Edible Southshore, etc.), environmentally friendly businesses (Sun Run Solar, Toyota, Chevrolet electric cars, Healthy Futures Farm, Fenn Farmstead & Gardens, etc.), recycling organizations from New Bedford and Fall River, and community organizations (Citizens for Citizens, YMCA, etc.). This will be a great opportunity to learn about what happening in your community and how you can get involved.

There will be a scavenger hunt on campus for the amazing sustainable features of BCC and a silent auction to bid on environmentally friendly prizes. BCC will provide tours to the inner workings of our unique smart zero carbon medicine and science building located right next to 5 acres of solar panels that now generate electricity to power the campus. While enjoying the Fair visitors can visit our Farmers’ Market and stock up on fresh, artisanal, locally produced foods to take home.
