Service-Learning is an experiential methodology that provides students with active learning opportunities related to course content while meeting needed services in the community. Students gain practical work experience while applying lessons learned in the classroom to real life situations. Students who successfully complete and document their service-learning project within a specific semester receive the notation “Service-Learning Component” under the title of the course on their academic transcript.
Steps Involved for Service-Learning:
- Read the Pre-Service Learning Training Guide (PDF).
- Take the Pre-Service Survey before beginning your Service.
- Please take a minute to login and set-up your GivePulse page at https://www.givepulse.com/, where you will select your service-learning project/partnership, input information about your experience on an on-going basis throughout the semester, and enter/keep track of your service-learning hours.
- Complete the Post-Service Survey upon completion of your Service (The survey is not available at this time). This allows the Center for Civic Engagement to understand our students’ experience with Service-Learning. The survey will open on beginning Monday, May 1st and closing on Friday, May 19th.
