How to Apply

Apply for the Gateway to College program by following these four steps:

Step 1: Attend an Information Session

Step 2: Complete your Application Packet

In order to be eligible for acceptance in to Gateway to College program you must:

  • Complete the application in full. This includes 3 typed essays.
  • Contact the high school you last attended and request submission of your high school transcripts.
  • If you are currently not enrolled in a participating school district you will work with the Resource Specialist to re-enroll and complete the required paperwork.

Step 3: Complete Placement Testing

Step 4: Participate in an Individual Interview

Once you have completed placement testing and the application you will have a chance to meet one on one with the Gateway to College Resource Specialist. This is a chance for us to get to know you in an individual setting and learn more about your strengths and motivation. Also, it will allow you to discuss any questions you have about the program. Interviews normally last for about 30 minutes.

How will I know if I have been accepted?

Acceptance to the program is determined by a number of factors. Students are normally notified within 48 hours after their interview. Acceptance into the Gateway to College program is contingent upon school district approval. Applicants who are not selected for acceptance into Gateway to College will be referred to other opportunities and programs at BCC or in the community. Non-acceptance into the program does not prohibit students from re-applying at a future date.


To be eligible for the Gateway to College program, students must:

  • Be 16-21 years of age.
  • Have left high school or on the verge of leaving without a diploma, or be significantly behind on high school credits.
  • Have a minimum 8th grade reading level (as determined by placement test).
  • Live in a qualifying school district
  • Be committed to success
