Plaque Dedicated to HM Booth
On Wednesday, June 26, 2019, Bristol Community College held a plaque unveiling ceremony, on the Bristol Fall River Campus, dedicated to Helen Marie “HM” Booth, the beloved, long-serving Communication Instructor and Director of Development for the Bristol Community College Foundation.
Mrs. Booth, of Fall River, was an elegant, kind and good-humored woman, who earned the highest levels of respect and adoration from her students, colleagues and community. She carried great pride in the students she educated and the communities she prepared students to contribute to. She was known for her authentic interest in the lives of her students, including their challenges and experiences and celebrated student success at every opportunity. She often orchestrated class-wide diction exercises to elevate the professionalism of Bristol’s graduates and the eloquence of speech in our region. Mrs. Booth challenged her students to find their voice and express their passion, clearly and confidently.
In her tenure as Director of Development during the Bristol Community College Foundation’s formative years, she balanced and excelled at several responsibilities including organizing college events, Bristol’s Annual Fund and acquiring impactful donations.
She was also a dedicated supporter, participant and believer in the positive impact of art and theater in our community.
Wednesday’s ceremony included a welcome by Bristol Community College President Laura L. Douglas, Ph.D. and remarks in appreciation of Mrs. Booth’s legacy from Bristol Community College President Emerita Eileen T. Farley and Bristol Community College President Emeritus John J. Sbrega, Ph.D.
The event was attended by Mrs. Booth’s family, friends and colleagues who gathered around the custom plaque that will be installed in the lobby of the Margaret L. Jackson Arts Center (H Building) on the Bristol Fall River Campus. The plaque reads “In memory of HM Booth for her dedication and commitment to Bristol Community College and the students whose lives she touched.”
