Congratulations to our contributing artists and photographers, Nick Mello, Rebecca Roy Paquin, Joyce Ramsden, Ashley Rautenstrauch, Nakita Mello, Jennifer Avery, Gary Faria, Jennifer Moore, Emily Knarr and Bethany Brasil, whose work was selected for this year’s Annual Juried Student Art & Design Exhibition held at BCC’s Grimshaw-Gudewicz Gallery. Emily went on to win an award in two-dimensional design and Bethany was awarded the BCC Art & Design Foundation Award. Kudos also goes to contributing fiction writer and poet Sebastian Clarkin, who was awarded second prize in the Jeanette-Denning Freshmen Writing Award competition. And lastly, congratulations to PW staff members Sarah Martin and Kate Monahan, who graduated this spring. Welcome to the latest issue of Prevailing Wind. Growth and change continue here at PW as we’re happy to report that this issue contains our largest number of contributors ever, nearly double our last issue, which prompted our new schedule. We are switching over from spring /summer and fall/ winter release dates to summer/ fall and winter /spring releases in order to accommodate all the submissions we receive and manage all of the formalities involved. We hope to attract and present even larger numbers of contributors with our new schedule.
This past spring semester PW grew not only in numbers but in diversity of materials. We’re thrilled that many of our latest contributors are artists. We have works in painting, graphic design, drawing, and photography as well. As for writing, we have contributors in fiction, memoir and poetry; and our own Kate Monahan delivers a critical blow to the film, 2012 in her hilarious send-up review. Thus, we have a lot to offer and a couple folks to whom we offer our gratitude: a very special thank you to contributor Ryan Pease, who photographed several of the art works in this issue and also to staff member Scott Peets, who went above and beyond in order to photograph the paintings of Alison Brum, which made it possible for us to include them.
